What are the DUI limits for truck drivers?

If you drive a truck, you may be surprised to find that the blood alcohol limits for driving under the influence are lower than they are for drivers with a regular passenger vehicle license. The California Department of Motor Vehicles lists the highest BAC you can legally have as well as what can occur if you surpass that limit.

A closer look at school bus safety

Many California parents rely on the convenience, reliability and safety of school buses to get their children safely to and from school each day. This unique source of transportation is especially beneficial to families who live further from school boundaries or have an unreliable vehicle. For working parents who experience scheduling conflicts, the ability to rely on a school bus is both reassuring and stress-reducing.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, school buses are proven to be a safer alternative to any other type of vehicle on the road. Buses are innovatively compartmentalized combining a solid structure of high, heavily padded seatbacks and a skeleton of steel designed to be energy-absorbing, to protect riders in the same way that eggs are positioned in a carton. Bus riders are not exempt from injury if involved in an accident, and some crash investigators suggest compartmentalization is not enough and that a secure 3-point harness would allow for maximum safety.

Facts about school bus safety

School buses carry some of California’s most precious cargo. It is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that these vehicles are safe on the roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school buses when compared to passenger vehicles are seven times safer. In fact, they are safer by design. The size and weight act as safety features, which keep passengers safe in the event of a crash. Another shocking statistic states that when riding in a bus, children are 50 times more likely to arrive safely at school, which only highlights the safety of this type of vehicle.

The largest danger to children riding school buses is when they get off the bus. According to the American School Bus Council, when it comes to school bus related fatalities, almost two-thirds occur outside the bus. Many of these accidents are a result of vehicles illegally passing a stopped bus that is loading or unloading children. The ASBC urges people to report drivers who pass a bus illegally or otherwise act aggressively around bus stops.

Drunk driver pushes squad car into guardrail

Despite strong efforts from advocacy groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving, too many people in California continue to make the dangerous choice to operate vehicles after they have been consuming alcoholic beverages. The range of locations and situations in which drunk driving accidents happen are too varied to list all in one place as they can happen at any time of day or night and any type of road or highway. Sadly, nobody is really safe from the dangers that drunk drivers create.

An example of this can be seen in a crash that happened along a stretch of highway in Orange County on a weekday night. A vehicle had pulled over to the side of the highway due to mechanical problems and a police vehicle stopped to provide help and make sure the occupants were safe. The police car was parked behind the other vehicle. While the disabled vehicle was being tended to, one of the officers on the scene went into the squad car and secured himself with a safety belt.

What should I know about disability benefits?

If you’ve suffered from a significant injury or illness that has led to long-term disability in California, you may be interested in applying for Social Security Disability benefits. This process can be exceedingly complex however, and applicants who lack a thorough understanding run the risk of being denied just when they need it most.

To this end, the Social Security Administration provides some useful information on what you need to know about disability benefits. Earnings test are crucial in this case, as you must show that you meet two distinct requirements in order to move forward in the process. The first requirement entails a recent work test, which takes into account the age in which you became disabled. Workers who are 31 or older when their disability occurred typically have to work at least five years of a ten-year duration before a disability occurred. The other test concerns the duration which your worked, which increases as you advance in age.

Accidents On Film And Television Production Sets

For creative professionals and craft workers in Hollywood, danger lurks on both sides of the camera. A falling light, a defective piece of equipment, lack of safety equipment - these and other hazards can result in serious accidents.

Recently, the Associated Press collected information concerning accidents on film and TV sets and on location throughout the U.S., and abroad. These are some of the most striking findings for the period 1990 to 2014:

Fatigued driving can cause serious injuries

Numerous industries in California depend on truckers to get precious cargo to and from its destination. This can lead some truckers to engage in dangerous behaviors, such as driving well past the point of tiredness. Fatigued driving poses a threat to both truckers themselves as well as other drivers, and can even result in death in extreme cases.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, commercial truckers are among the groups of people most prone to driving while fatigued. Driving without the proper rest can lead to many dangerous behaviors when behind the wheel, including decreasing the time in which one can react to hazards on the road. In fact, some people even fall asleep while driving, with statistics showing that of the 150,000 polled, up to 9 percent admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel in the previous month.
